We started this skin care line ten years ago, a collection of skin care enthusiasts who couldn't figure out why all the money and time we were spending searching for products to help our sensitive, break-out prone skin wasn't leading to clear, lovely skin for us. We were at the end of our ropes.

It's very interesting when we read the ingredients lists of other brands, particularly those products labeled "non-comedogenic," and those marketed to acne sufferers. It took us years to narrow down our ingredients to only ones that didn't clog our pores. At first we started formulating with some "theoretically" non-pore-clogging ingredients like ceramides, cetearyl alcohol, and squalane, and...we broke out! Then we removed those from our formulas and suddenly weren't breaking out. Go figure. Our point is, we aren't convinced other brands are actually testing their products enough to make the claims they're making (which by the way, comedogenicity claims aren't regulated, which puts the breakout-prone among us at a true disadvantage.)

overkill is unnecessary
When we started this line, we knew we loved the effect of various exfoliating acids and
other high tech ingredients and wanted to include them. We just couldn't figure out an easy schedule for how often to use them, and often ended up angering our sensitive skin by experimenting. We finally achieved success when we 1) stuck to single-active products so that we knew what EACH active was separately affecting our skin and 2) used those actives at mild concentrations. Our faces rejoiced when we stuck to just a handful of cool ingredients our skin for sure liked. And equally importantly, our brains were finally able to relax because the formulas were so goof-proof.
